Lapland UAS opening ceremony 2023

The grand opening officially kicks off the new school year! The opening is divided into two days as follows:

Wednesday September 6th, 2023
We'll be having stands at Kemi, Tornio and Rovaniemi campuses between 10AM and 1PM. Different associations and projects have been invited to have a stand to present their activities so come say hello and have a coffee with new people and acquaintances.

Friday, September 8th, 2023
Friday is the official opening day. This year, the venue is held at the restaurant Valdemari in Rovaniemi, which is located on the banks of Kemijoki. According to tradition, the opening ceremony includes a daytime program, a checkpoint race and after party.

1PM The program starts at Valdemari beach, coffee is served
2PM Church rowing boat competition between Lapland UAS and UNI Lapland
(NOTE! the first task of checkpoint race starts at the same time!)
At 3PM, the city orienteering checkpoint race starts
9PM After party starts at Half Moon Night Club

City orienteering checkpoint race
After days program, the legendary city orienteering begins! During the competition, tutors lead new students in groups from one checkpoint to another, completing tasks and getting to know each other in the heart of Rovaniemi. This checkpoint race starts the autumn's big events and it acts as an easy introduction to the secrets of checkpoint races.

The competition is free to attend. The signing up is just a way for us to divide the groups among the tutors.

After party
The opening day culminates in the after party organized at Half Moon Night Club, where the DJ heats up the dance floor! Between 9PM and 10PM o'clock, you can get in with a free wristband, which you get from the day's event at Valdemari, near the coffee station from ROTKOs staff. Please note that you must have a wristband to enter the after party for free, after 10PM there is an entrance fee at the door! (For photosensitive people, note that there might be flashing lights in the premises.)

Bus transport for Kemi and Tornio first year students and their tutors
We have organized bus transportation for the opening day on Friday from Kemi and Tornio to Rovaniemi and back.
Departure from Tornio at 10:30AM
Pass through Kemi at 11:00AM
Arrival in Rovaniemi at approx 1PM

The return buses leave at 03AM (Poromiehentie, Stop Porokulma E (Stop in front of Half Moon)) The buses go via Kemi to Tornio. You must register for the bus ride in advance. Registering for a bus ride takes place via kide.app at the same time as participating in the checkpoint race and the link is in your email.
