By paying for the membership you can use a student card which allows you to get student benefits around Finland.

Student card is an official proof that you are a student in Lapland UAS. With the card you will be able to proof your student status also in places besides school.

The student card gives you opportunities to use student discounts but it is also a membership card of the student union ROTKO. So as long as your card is valid you will be a member of ROTKO.

How can I become a member?

  1. You are currently studying in Lapland UAS as an exchange student or in a Bachelor or Master level degree programme or you have confirmed the acceptance of the study place for the ongoing year.
  2. You have registered yourself present for the ongoing academic year or semester.
  3. You pay the membership fee for ROTKO

NOTE!

If you are an open university student, you can have "a green student card" which works in slice.fi app. (NOTE! Not a physical card.) With this card you will get the same benefits except student meals and VR and Matkahuolto public transport tickets. More info can be found below.

What the membership actually means?

The membership doesn't obligate you to do anything but it gives you an opportunity to have an influence and to participate in promoting the interest of all the students.

As a member:

  • You are able to become a candidate for the ROTKO representatives or board.
  • You will be able to vote in ROTKOs representative election that are organised every autumn.
  • You can get a student card which allows you to get student discounts.

Validity of the membership

You can choose if you want to buy a full academic year, a semester membership or membership for a longer period.

  • Full academic year is valid from September to the end of next September OR from January to the end of next January.
  • Autumn semester membership is valid from September to the end of January.
  • Spring semester membership is valid from January to the end of September.
  • If you have a physical card, the new academic year stickers will be available at the end of summer.

Getting a student card

You can become a member of the student union and get a student card by filling the form in the link below and paying for the membership.

NOTE! You can use PIVO mobile student card only IF YOU HAVE A FINNISH BANK ACCOUNT! Otherwise you need to get a physical student card or get yourself "the green student card" that works in slice.fi (doesn't include student meals, VR and Matkahuolto public transport tickets).

Using a mobile student card

After you have paid the membership fee, you can use a mobile student card that works in PIVO app or Slice.fi app depending on what type of a student you are.

DEGREE STUDENT WITH A FINNISH ID ⇒ PIVO-APP

NOTE! You need a Finnish ID and a Finnish bank account for this mobile student card. If you don't have them, you can have either a physical card or a "green student card" from the slice.fi app.

1. Become a member
The student card will work after one workday when your member fee has been approved.
2. Download PIVO app
3. Sign in with your online bank user identifiers and add your payment details.
4. After this open Pivo and select Student card and pick your organisation: ROTKO
5. Create a student card by following the app’s instructions
The student card requires a valid membership of a student organisation or student union. You can change your photo twice a year.

With PIVO mobile student card you can prove your student status in the same places as with the physical card. You will get the normal student discounts and benefits but also student priced meals in school cafeterias and train and long-distance tickets with student prices.

OTHER STUDENTS ⇒ SLICE.FI

(You are an open university student,  an exchange student or a degree student who doesn't have a Finnish ID and a Finnish bank account)

1. Become a member
- Make sure to choose study type ”open studies”. NOTE! Choose only a mobile student card because this card option doesn't have a physical card.
2. You will get Slice – username and activation code to your email.
3. Download Slice.fi-app
4. Activate the app with the activation code.
Note that you can only sign-in to one device.

Using a physical student card

If you are a degree student but don't have a Finnish ID and Finnish bank account, or you just don't want to use mobile student card, you can have a physical student card. Make sure to pay the physical card fee (15 €) when you become a member. This way the card will be sent to print. You will get an email about the printed card approx. two weeks from the order. In the email you will receive more info about where to collect it or if you want it posted.

Renewing the valid sticker for the card can be done in a ROTKO office.
