Tutor application period have been extented to 8th of March!

Do you want to be a tutor? To work as a tutor, you must take part in tutor training.

There are three different tutor roles. Each role has its own training.
Choose the role that suits you best and join us!

Campus Tutoring

  • Training is organised by the Student Union ROTKO (contact person: Niina Piispanen).

Who can apply:

  • Day-time students are recommended to apply as campus tutors.
  • Blended-learning students can also apply if they can be on campus every week, especially during the autumn semester.
  • With the same application form, you can apply campus and marketing tutor roles or for just one of them during the tutor application period.

Marketing Tutoring

  • Training is organised by Lapland UAS Marketing team (contact person: Doris Vainio & Veli-Pekka Perätalo).
  • The training schedule will be announced later.
  • With the same application form, you can apply for campus and marketing tutor roles or for just one of them during the tutor application period.

Who can apply:

  • Day-time, blended-learning, and online students can apply as marketing tutors.

Online Tutoring

  • The application for online tutors will open later in the spring. Online tutors will be trained in August.

Who can apply:

  • Online and blended-learning students are the main target group.
  • Day-time students can also apply.

Tutor Training for Campus Tutors

Working as a peer tutor requires completing campus tutor training. The training lasts one day and requires attendance on campus. The student must agree on any absence from other classes in advance with the teacher. Campus tutor training is organised once a year and includes students from almost all fields of study. If it is not possible to agree on an absence with the teacher due to the importance of the class (for example, lab sessions), please contact the organiser of the tutor training (Niina Piispanen).

For students from Kemi and Tornio in Finnish

  • Training is held in Kemi campus: March 19, 2026, 9:00–16:00
  • Transportation from Tornio to the Kemi campus will be provided.

For students from Kemi and Rovaniemi in English

  • Training is held in Rovaniemi campus: March 24, 2026, 9:00–16:00
  • Transportation from Kemi to the Rovaniemi campus will be provided.

For students from Rovaniemi in Finnish

  • Training is held in Rovaniemi campus: March 31, 2026, 9:00–16:00

Tutor Camp (optional)

  • April 17–19, 2026 / Rovaniemi, Leirikari
  • The camp is free of charge for participants. Accommodation, transportation, and meals are provided by ROTKO for tutors who have completed the training.
  • The aim of the tutor camp is to build team spirit among tutors and help them get to know their tutor team and head tutor. The camp gives a strong start to the upcoming tutoring year.
MARKETING TUTORING

Lapland UAS' marketing team will train marketing tutors

Marketing tutor knows Lapland UAS' marketing objectives and can represent Lapland UAS in different marketing events and fairs as a student expert.

Goal of education marketing is to increase conspicuousness of Lapland UAS and recruit new students to apply to University of Applied Sciences. Marketing tutor works locally and/or nationwide according the guidance and directions from Lapland UAS' staff members.

CAMPUS TUTORING

Student Union ROTKO will train new Campus Tutors

Campus tutor works locally on campus as a peer guide who gives information and guidance to new students and organizes different events and communal activities alone or in cooperation with other campus tutors.

Early semester tutors will welcome new students to campus, introduce premises and services and shows around the camppus and campus town. Most of the communal activities that tutors provide are organized after school, but students may wish for activities during days or weekends also.

Campus tutor mostly works with people who are studying on campus. Tutors supports the well-being of students and the campus community by being active event organizer and a reliable peer student to whom other students can easily turn. Campus tutors form tutoring team and they work together, in smaller teams or alone according to situation.

ON-LINE TUTORING

Student Union ROTKO will train new Online Tutors

Online Tutor will work as a peer guide to other students studying online. Tutor will share information, tips and guidance about all that is Lapland UAS. Online Tutor will guide new students trough the school services, student culture and other UAS systems. All online.

Online Tutoring is mostly not bound to specific time frame. Tutoring schedule will be adjusted according the possibilities of the tutor and the needs of a new student. In September when new students start their studies Tutors will introduce themselves during orientation week for online groups. Online Tutors can also organize varying activities for online groups. Together all the Online Tutors will form a Online Tutor Team. They can works alone or together according to situation. 

After the training period Online Tutor will know all about Lapland UAS operation and study environments online. They also will have knowledge about different tools and systems to use for grouping activities and guidance. Tutors learn to know different Lapland UAS well-being services and their presence online. They can also be part of developing and offering these services.
